List your businessAlmost always. Work on the Loxahatchee or the Intracoastal typically needs town or county approval plus state and federal environmental review, and the Loxahatchee carries extra scrutiny as a designated Wild and Scenic river. A contractor who tells you no permit is needed is a contractor to walk away from.
Several months is normal, and it runs longer when a seagrass or manatee review is triggered. Any schedule you are quoted should separate permitting time from construction time. If it does not, ask for that in writing.
A Florida contractor license that covers marine work, verifiable through DBPR by license number. We check that number before a dock or seawall listing goes up, and we publish it on the listing so you can check it yourself.
Rate the lift on the wet weight of your boat with fuel, water, gear, and the engine, not the dry weight on the brochure. Then add margin. Undersized lifts are the most common expensive mistake on this stretch of water.
